Cyberpunks Released

I mentioned something on my blog a few months ago about a community compilation CD that Joseph Labrecque of Fractured Vision Media was putting on, and that I was going to be submitting a track to it. Well, the compilation CD is now released! There are some really great tracks on it and a lot of work went into its production. The song I submitted was a brand new one called Cyberpunks, a track with vocoded voices, an expansive sound, and an interesting look at the world today. You can read more about the work that went on behind the scenes to produce it, as well as download the track in a few formats, on my latest blog post.

New Song Released: Battery

A new song is being released today called “Battery”. It won’t be appearing on my latest album, but it was good enough that I figured I should release it. Since it had been such a long time since I worked on one, I thought it would be fun to write a progressive trance song this time around. The result is “Battery”, a song named after a piece of software I love to use. As usual, it’s released under the Creative Commons 3.0 Attribute-ShareAlike license.

New Song, New Album, and More

Lots of updates today!

First off, I have a new song available called “Inside The Beat”. This is my latest track, and it’s a bit different in that it actually has lyrics. I also experimented with a darker, EBM-inspired sound, so I hope everyone enjoys it. The song is available a few paragraphs down at the bottom of this news update and can be played directly in your browser.

I’ve also gone back and re-did part of the last song I released, “Crystallis”. This new version is also at the bottom of this post and can be played in your browser.

Both of these song are off the new album, which I sort of mentioned in passing in the last news update. Now that I have three songs finished for it, as well as part of the artwork, I think it’s safe for me to announce it. The title of the new album will be Inside The Beat, and will likely feature between 12 and 14 tracks. This will also be the first album where I have actual lyrics (as you can already hear today), and will also be the first one where you can purchase a physical copy if you desire.

This is because today, I’m also announcing the opening of the Official Partition 36 Merchandise Store! There aren’t many designs right now (I admit that I am by no means a graphics designer), but you can help support Partition 36 by buying a t-shirt, water bottle, coffee cup, or even a physical copy of my previous EP, Opcode-1.

Anyways, on to the songs. As usual, you can get the song in either Ogg Vorbis or Mp3 format, and you can make as many copies as like. A high-quality FLAC copy will be available only once the album is finished.

New Song Released: Crystallis

I was hoping to release something a sooner, but I’ve been pretty sick all week. Still, better late than never, right?

So this song is off the new album I’m working on. From the start I decided that I didn’t want to overdo anything on it, so I kept the instrumentation pretty simple. The bass was a pattern I just sort of randomly came up with while messing around with my PolyEvolver keyboard (which is what provides the final sound), with the rest of the song developing from there.

This time around I’m going to embed the song into this new item, as well as offer a separate download link, so that it can be played directly from your browser. As usual, you can get the song in either Ogg Vorbis or Mp3 format, and you can make as many copies as like. A high-quality FLAC copy will be available only once the album is finished.

To go along with the recent release of Opcode-1, I’ve created a set of remixes of the song “I Love Penguins”. Along with the original song, the single contains three new mixes: Vocal-less Mix, Dirty Mix, and Electro Mix. Partition 36 is maturing as I become much more involved with it. Unfortunately, keeping it running takes money. Equipment breaks down, software needs upgrading, and this website needs to stay running. Also, I’m beginning to plan live shows in the near future, but the labor and additional equipment will need to be paid for.

I would love to keep releasing my music for free, but it’s going to take some help from Partition 36’s fans.

New EP Released! - Opcode-1

I’m proud to announce Partition 36’s newest release, Opcode-1! This EP contains six tracks in total, which consist of three completely new tracks, one remix from the last album, (incf partition-36), and two remastered tracks written before Partition 36 existed. As usual, you can listen to the songs directly in your browser, download them individually as mp3 or Ogg Vorbis files, or download the entire album in either mp3 for FLAC format.

EPs are something new that I’m trying out. The idea is that I can make releases more often, and also have a place for remixes and remastered songs from the past. A few of the brand new songs on EPs may end up on the next full album, or they may not. You’ll just have to stick around to find out ;^)

DS-10 Songs Page

There has been another update to the discography page, this time to include some new track releases. Every once in a while I’ll write a song using nothing but the Korg DS-10 software for the Nintendo DS. They’re not the greatest, but I’ve decided to make them available for download.

As with my other albums, these can also be listened to directly in the browser. Check out the DS-10 page!

The discography page has been updated and cleaned up a bit. In addition to each album being on its own page, all Partition 36 tracks can be played directly in your browser. The only caveat is that you either need a very modern browser that supports HTML 5 (such as Firefox 3.5), or you need to have the Flash plugin installed.

Songs can still be downloaded individually, as either an mp3 file or (now) an Ogg Vorbis file.

First EP Announced, New Track Released

I was hoping to release this earlier this year, but I encountered a bunch of unexpected computer issues. Tonight I’m releasing a new track on my Latest Music podcast called Space Voyage. It can also be directly downloaded from here.

This is the first track to be completed for an experiment I’m trying out. Between album releases, I will be releasing shorter EPs that will have between four and six tracks on them. Two or three will be entirely new songs while the rest will be remixes. The very first EP will be titled Opcode 1.

New Album Released: (incf partition-36)

After a little over two years, a new album is finally being released: (incf partition-36). Many (not all) of the songs on this album have been featured on the Latest Music podcast. But, even if you’ve heard them on there, I still highly recommend downloading them again, as pretty much all of them have been updated in some way, be it audio quality or instrumentation.

Individual mp3 files, as well as zip files containing the entire album and the album artwork, can be found on the Discography page.

A new song is up on my Latest Music podcast called ROT13.

The release of this song means that my next album, (incf partition-36), is now complete as far as content goes. During the next week I’ll be doing some minor tweaking to the tracks. If everything goes well, the album will be released on Saturday, November 1st.

Esselfortium Song Release

A friend of mine, Mike (aka Esselfortium), recently released a new song called Invis. It’s a really cool song that I suggest checking out. In his own words:

I think it's time for me to finally call this song finished, after having initially started on it almost a year and a half ago. The original idea came from me hearing a few seconds of some Autechre song (no, I don't know which one) on a streaming radio station, with some awesomely glitchy drums, being inspired by the sound, and immediately setting off to write a song based on that inspiration. The resulting song is very much my own, though, and it's definitely not a remake or imitation of anything that I know of. :P

New Equipment and Site Design Update

Contrary to what some may think…no, I am not dead. In fact, I’ve been busy working on a few things. I purchased a new keyboard that I’ve been having to learn, and have been using it to work on some new songs. Expect to hear new stuff by the middle of next month.

The site has also been redesigned to not use an iframe as its main content area. This should make it a lot easier to bookmark pages and find things. I’ve also taken down the Music Fragments podcast since I wasn’t all that pleased with how the first episode turned out format wise. I’m reconsidering how I can go about doing them.

Podcasts Now Available

The two podcasts I mentioned in my previous news posts are now available! For now, these are both accessible from the left-hand side of the website. The Music Fragments podcast features unfinished, work-in-progress material that I am currently working on, while the Latest Music podcast features music, as its name implies, that is the most recently finished material. This means that you can listen to new material before the album its going on is even finished. Soon, listeners will also have the ability to give feedback on the Music Fragments podcast.

RSS and Podcasting Feeds

Good news for those of you who like RSS feeds and podcasts! The Partition 36 homepage now has an RSS feed for news posts. So if you want to keep up to date with the latest Partition 36 news, simply subscribe to the feed. The RSS data can be accessed by clicking on the orange icon near the top of the news.

Also, two podcasts will be offered soon. The first podcast will feature new songs as they are finished. So there is no longer a need to wait until the next release of a Partition 36 CD to listen to the latest music. The second podcast will be quite a bit different. Update once or twice a month, the “Music Fragments” podcast will feature unfinished, work-in-progress material from Partition 36. It is meant both to offer listeners a glimpse into how Partition 36 material progresses, as well as offer an avenue for feedback on unfinished material. Both of these podcasts are expected to be available this coming weekend.
